I wanted to lose the 4 spoke steering wheel and airbag. I made the mistake of replacing the Steering Wheel Boss
with a genuine Momo version.
While fitting it I realised the steering had gone "tight" even though I had not tightened the
column nut. As I turned the wheel wondering why it had gone tight I heard a cracking noise. It was the squib ring,
also know as the slip or clock ring, .... cracking! The cracks can be seen in the photographs. On the other side it
has Alfa Romeo on it and also the two arrows should be aligned when reassembling!
I spoke to the importer without much joy. All the steering boss required was three holes in the back to accommodate
the old mounting points on squib ring used on the old 4 spoke wheel.
My advice would be use the adaptor made by Hill Engineering. It bolts directly on to the original Ferrari hub, you only have to
remove the steering wheel from the boss. A 3.3 ohm resistor and a 2 amp fuse is needed to replace the airbag
connection, this should allow the passenger airbag to operate. Seen here secured nicely with shrink sleeve.
I now have a better grip on the steering also the feel and the seating position is so much improved.
Before you change the wheel I recommend you inform your insurance company of your intentions, just to make
sure it's ok with them.
