Ferrari355spider.com - Yellow Stitching

How lucky would you be to find a yellow 355 Spider in great condition with black trim and yellow stitching?

Well I was not, but five out of six is not bad.

When I was told about the right thread, where to get it and how to do it, it seemed easy.
It took far longer than I had bargained for. One difficulty was how to start off, creating a hidden starting point in the right spot.

Some of the black stitching is relatively loose, others are quite tight. There was the odd black stitch missing. Sometimes picking up under the original black stitching was easy and fast, most of the time it wasn't.  Sometimes I'd not catch all the threads of the black stitch and have to go in again. Then the needle just didn't want to come out the other side, it was so easy to minutely catch the leather.

As with the seats the length of yellow thread was very long and could ravel up on it's self, this could be prevented by pulling the yellow thread through without any friction, not at and angle but straight through.

Finishing off created a challenge, it had to be good enough not to pull out or fray but also had to be invisible, I used something called Fray Stop which I'd had for a strap on a crash helmet.

I'm so pleased how it all turned out, it's impossible to take one photo that shows the full effect of all twelve pieces. Two headrests, two armrests, two seats, one Instrument cluster, one center console, hood mechanism cover, radio surround, tool kit and hand brake surround.

I consider the hours I spent were well worth it, the overall look is great it has transformed the look of the car!
